New ICs From Rohm, Toshiba, and Nexperia Target Automotive Advancements

The automotive industry continues to push the boundaries of technology with connected and electric vehicles (EVs). To meet this growing demand, semiconductor manufacturers Rohm, Toshiba, and Nexperia have introduced new integrated circuits (ICs) designed to enhance automotive applications with compact, power-efficient solutions.

Rohm’s latest offering includes a new series of N-channel MOSFETs with voltage ratings of 40 V, 60 V, and 100 V. These MOSFETs target critical automotive applications such as motors for doors, seats, windows, infotainment, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). With three compact package types, including the DFN2020Y7LSAA, these MOSFETs reduce power loss and heat generation, thanks to their innovative split-gate structure.

Toshiba has unveiled the TB9103FTG gate driver IC, specifically designed for brushed DC motors in applications like power windows, seats, and backdoor motors. The IC provides an efficient alternative to mechanical relays and includes multiple fault detection features to ensure safety and reliability in automotive systems. Its compact 4 mm × 4 mm package and low-power standby mode make it ideal for space-constrained automotive environments.

Nexperia has introduced its NXF650x-Q100 series of transformer drivers, designed for EVs and HEVs. These drivers offer 6 W power delivery and feature low-EMI and low-noise designs, making them ideal for applications such as battery management systems (BMS), DC-DC converters, and motor control. With protection features like thermal shutdown and over-current protection, these drivers ensure safety in critical EV environments.

As the automotive sector continues to evolve, these new ICs represent significant advancements in power efficiency, safety, and reliability.
